Press release – The Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding motorists that aggressive driving is dangerous and is a leading factor in fatal motor vehicle collisions on OPP patrolled roads.

On August 20, 2022, shortly before 4:25 p.m., members of the OPP conducted a traffic stop on a JEEP Wrangler and a JEEP Patriot on Highway 417, in the Township of East-Hawkesbury.

The 18-year-old female driver from Nepean, Ontario was found to be travelling at 159 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone, and the 33-year-old male driver was found to be travelling 154 km/hr in a posted 100 km/hr zone. As a result of police investigation, both drivers were charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Performing a Stunt – Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendants were issued a summons to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice, l’Orignal. The vehicles were towed and impounded for fourteen days. The driver’s licence was seized and suspended for thirty days.
