(Press release) On July 20, 2021, the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) concluded an opiate trafficking investigation leading to the arrest of a male at a local store.
Further investigation located pre-packaged envelopes containing alleged controlled substances. Subsequently, a search warrant was executed at the individual’s residence and quantities of suspected MDMA, Xanax, Oxycodone, Hydromorphone, LSD, DMT, Clonazepam, Psilocybin, Hydrocodone and Illicit Cannabis were seized. The estimated street value for these items is over $118,000. Items typically associated with drug trafficking, one air pistol, one air soft rifle and a vehicle was also seized.
Louka BERARD, 19 years of age, of Hawkesbury, was arrested and charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA):
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance sec. 5 (2)
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule 4 Substance sec. 5 (2)
- Possession of Cannabis for the purpose of selling Cannabis Act (CA) sec. 10 (2)
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 18, 2021.
